Organizations and leaders use a variety of motivators to keep teams at their best; however, attempts made in this regard only sometimes pay as expected. A motivated team that is efficient in performing its assigned duties and always ready to put its best foot forward is the dream of any leader. As easy as it sounds on paper, it is more challenging to implement.

External motivating factor such as monetary benefits, raises, and promotions are not always possible and are also not a permanent solution. Leaders need to make room for more intrinsic based motivators to keep teams at their best performance. Clear Communication Of Purpose

The teams should be very clear about their purpose. The more precise the purpose, the better the vision and motivation of team members. Clearly answer all purpose-related questions of the team, such as why, what, where, when, etc.

 

Clear Explanation Of Goals

Ambiguous goals are the biggest de-motivator for teams as they lose the team’s focus from the goal. No one has any confusion about what the team is doing and why. It is also the leader’s job to monitor if the team’s potential is up to what is expected of it. Understanding of goals for a team means lesser stress leading to smarter decisions.

 

Make Your Teams Accountable

It happens both ways around. Any team or its members experience motivation when they get positive feedback or recognized for their work. If performance exceeds expectations, recognition results, and if underperformance is experienced, consequences also have to be shared.  

 

Offer Development And Growth Opportunities To Team

Teams get motivated when they see opportunities for self-growth, both personal and professional. A system should be put in place that oversees team members’ growth and development opportunities based on performance and its alignment with organizational goals.

Motivating your team can be very hard if the proper steps are not taken or a straightforward process of the appropriate mechanism is put to work from the start.
