12 Global Warming Statistics & Worldwide Efforts to Resolve Environmental Issues

Global warming describes an increase in average air temperature within the last two centuries near the Earth’s surface. We notice that climate has changed on an average basis from geological time. Different weather phenomena like storms, precipitation, and Temperature are on the increase. So scientists can find out the influences of these phenomena on climate. Unfortunately, human activities after the industrial revolution have caused ruthless Climate change.

Basic Grounds of Global Warming

1- Deforestation

The causes of global warming are man-made. Human beings need oxygen, and plants are the basic source of it. Plants have a definite system to release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide that is not good for the environment. To fulfill commercial and domestic needs, man has cut down the forests. The result arises in the form of an imbalance in the environment and an increase in global warming.

2- Vehicles’ Use

These days, vehicles are in use to cover short and long-distance. Vehicles discharge dangerous gases, smoke, and toxins. Excessive use of vehicles is warming the climate.

3- Chlorofluorocarbon

Refrigerators and air conditioners are inevitable to preserve food and maintain indoor Temperature. These appliances increase CFC in the atmosphere and diminish the beneficial ozone layer. Consequently, ultraviolet rays have given way to reach the surface and boost the Temperature.

4- Agriculture

Methane gas and CO2 come out due to farming activities. These increase the intensity of greenhouse gases and thus the overall Temperature of this planet.

5- Industrial Progress

The Temperature has been rising severely since the initiation of industrialization. Factories are adding destructive gases and becoming the source of environmental issues.

6- Overpopulation

A high number of inhabitants of Earth mean more and more people are there to exhale carbon dioxide. It is one of the severe causes of global warming.

Consequences of Global Warming

1- Increased Temperature

If you understand what global warming is, then you must know the consequences of climate change. First of all, it leads to an improbable rise in Temperature. It is perilous that the Temperature has risen one degree within the last 30 years. The outcome is noticed in the form of glacier melting. Sea level rise is another upshot of global warming.

2- Ecosystem Vulnerability

Effects of global warming are also noticed on coral reefs. The tenderness of coral reefs has become worst due to climate changes. It can also threaten animals and other plants as well.

3- Uncertain Climate

Observable climate changes are noticed in climate. Flood has negatively influenced some places, whereas drought has worsened the conditions in other areas.

4- Diseases are Common

Humidity and heat patterns are adversely changed; therefore, mosquitoes are moving and spreading more diseases.

5- Increase in Mortality Ratio

Natural calamities, tsunamis, and floods are more significant than before; thus, the overall death ratio is also increased.

6-    Natural Habitat is Spoiled

Effects of climate change are visible if we observe the natural habitat of animals and plants. Most habitats disappeared; therefore, the animals are either migrating or becoming extinct.

Basic Global Warming Statistics

The climate is calculated by checking the average weather of a region for a period of 30 years. You can determine climate through features such as humidity, snow or rain, Temperature, seasons, and wind. The metrics or parameters for measuring Temperature in a region or overall Earth are as follows:

  • Minimum & Maximum temperature
  • Speed of wind
  • Rainfall
  • Relative humidity
  • Hours of sunshine
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Biomass
  • Sea Level

Advanced technologies and Earth compassing satellites have given the opportunity to scientists to understand the climate of the Earth through observing changes for many years.

During the 19th Century, the nature of CO2, as well as other gases, was verified. These are capable of trapping heat and playing a role in shifting infrared energy in the atmosphere and increasing the ratio of greenhouse gases to cause global warming. Sedimentary rocks’ layers, coral reefs, ocean sediments, and tree rings prove that the Earth is warming 10 times quicker than the average rate. Even the increase of CO2 is 250 times more than last Ice Age.

It is measured that the Temperature of the surface was almost 0.8 C warmer in 2020 than 20th Century. Within the past few years, the Temperature has been marked hottest. The anomaly in global Temperature has definitely caused a rise in sea level, droughts, floods, and other catastrophes.

Details about Global Warming

  1. In 2020, the emission of CO2 was 34.18 bn mt.
  2. China is the largest CO2 emission county, whereas the US emits 5,130 MT (CO2) through energy consumption.
  3. A report issued that US will emit 12.4MT CO2 per capita in 2050.
  4. The utmost extent in Arctic sea ice is 14.7 mn km2
  5. Anomalies in the Temperature of ocean surface & global land cause 0.98C rise in Temperature.
  6. In July 2021, US average temperature was as 75.47 F.
  7. 48% of Americans have observed warmer Temperatures.
  8. Sea Ice extent is 11.77 m km2 in Northern Hemisphere.
  9. The world invested 3017 bn $ in clean energy.
  10. 89% worldwide companies have taken the initiative to reduce CO2 emission
  11. Denmark has gained the highest achievements in climate protection.
  12. In 2019, the emission of CO2 was approximately 36.44 billion metric tons. COVID-19 played an important role in reducing carbon dioxide gas emissions in 2020. To overcome CO2 production, different countries have issued tradable green certificates. Moreover, an increase in carbon price has compelled corporations to find out sustainable ways of production. Renewable sources of energy are amplified to reduce the emission of deadly gases.
Climate Change Effects

Global Temperature

NASA’s scientists have issued an analysis that Global Temperature has risen almost two Fahrenheit. A big group of people thinks that it is not alarming if the Temperature is warming just one degree. Cyclical events like summer & winter and day and night bring significant fluctuation in regional Temperature; however, the global Temperature is recorded by checking the amount of energy the planet is receiving and transferring back to space. The energy transfer from Earth depends on the quantity of greenhouse heat-trapping gases.

If we check the last 2000 years, it is clear that the surface of the Earth is getting hot and hot. From 1951 to 1980, there was an average change in the Temperature. Since 2000, 19 hottest worldwide years have been recorded. 2016 and 2020 are recorded as the hottest years since 1880.

Environmental Challenges | Global Warming

Environmental challenges describe the current crises in the environment that are liable to cause harmful impacts on humans or the environment. Some of the serious environmental challenges are as follows:

Destruction of Soil

Due to the effect of climate change, loss of biodiversity, salinization, erosion, and carbon storage ratios have disturbed the precipitation pattern. Quick melting of snow, rise in Temperature, increased droughts, more river discharges, and soil degradation are expected. It is also a challenge to overcome the saline soil in coastal areas.

Biodiversity

Ecosystem and species are indirectly and directly influenced due to changes in the climate. Some indirect effects on the ecosystem are Habitat dissolution, pollution of air, invasive species, soil and water pollution, and overexploitation.

Scarcity of Water

In Europe, effects of climate change are observed through less rainfall patterns, severe storms, and water shortage in south-eastern and southern Europe. Even the content is at risk of flooding.

Water Temperature

Water temperature helps find the average health of the ecosystem of oceans and aquatic organisms. Due to global warming, the Temperature of water (lakes and rivers) is enhancing.

Change in the Temperature of sea surface and variation in the pattern of wind, biological and physical changes come in the oceans. The rise in sea temperature will lead alien species to spread and survive in the areas where they could not go in the past. The acidification of oceans will influence carbonate-producing organisms.

In order to cope with environmental challenges, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (unfccc) has received worldwide membership. 197 countries signed as a member of UNFCCC. They work to reduce or stop harmful human interference leading to environmental issues.

  • The main reason of the convention is to maintain the concentration of greenhouse gases.
  • Industrial countries must reduce the emission of CO2.
  • Members of this convention are agreed to support the developing countries’ activities relevant to climate change.

Climate Change | Global Warming

Climate change illustrates the long-term changes in weather and temperature patterns. Natural changes are not irreversible; however, changes due to human activities require serious actions to take. The burning of fossil fuels in high amounts produces dangerous greenhouse gases such as methane and carbon dioxide. While driving vehicles, gasoline is in use that produces these gases. Similarly, when anyone uses coal for warming purposes, methane and CO2 gases emit. Destruction of forests is another reason for an increase in CO2. Garbage landfills are adding methane gas to the environment.

Climate changes are highly intensive, and these have compelled the young generation to come forward and play a constructive role. So, environmental campaigner Greta Thunberg prefers to take a vegan diet. She has obliged her parents to stop using products that are not good for the environment. She stood in front of the parliament (Swedish) and protested through a sign showing “School Strike for Climate”.

COPs 26

Basically, cops 26 is the Convention of Parties covering countries such as EU, Democratic Republic of Congo, Australia, Colombia, Canada and Argentina, France, Scotland, US, Switzerland, South Korea, Sweden, Italy, Israel, Ghana, India, and Nigeria.

The key objective of cop26 is to make it possible to get net-zero emissions within the next 30 years. Countries will get a framework from cops26 members and will work accordingly to reduce global Temperature. Greta Thunberg joined the convention and stated it was a failure because the world does not need objectives for 2050. In fact, we need actions to take now and in upcoming years.

Environmental Problems | Global Warming

Several problems are worsening our environment. Thus, it is important to make people aware of their actions and side effects. Some of the key problems are as follows:

  • Pollution
  • Over Population
  • Ocean Acidification
  • Global Warming
  • Waste Disposal
  • Depletion of Ozone Layer
  • Biodiversity Loss
  • Public Health Problems
  • Acid Rain
  • Deforestation

The Atlantic Ocean has a vital currents system responsible for maintaining Northern Hemisphere temperature. On the other side, Gulf Stream is the chief element that supports the Atlantic Ocean to keep the energy balance. It works like a conveyor belt to receive warm water from the tropics and shares it to North Atlantic. As a result, the saltier and colder water goes under deep water and flows towards the South.

Regrettably, Gulf Stream collapse climate change is reported. Researchers claim that the collapse will cause due to change from strong to weak circulation. Scientists have warned the world about inadequate circulation. Ice sheets are melting, and heavy rains are causing the North Atlantic Ocean water to be less saline, making it lighter and less capable of sinking. In case, the water gets too light, it will disturb the overall circulation. The collapse of weather patterns will cause unexpected changes like rapid Sea level rise, disruption of the tropical monsoon system, and severe cold in Western Europe.

Climate Change Statistics | Global Warming

  • Rainfall, weather volatility, sea-level rise and change in Temperature are the basis to measure climate change.
  • The effect of climate change has influenced above 100 million people and they will reach the extreme poverty ratio till 2030.
  • Rise in two to three degrees will cause 5% more people at peril of malaria worldwide.
  • Due to climate change, mosquito diseases are increasing 3 to 6%.
  • By the year 2030, climate change will increase more than 10% diarrhea disease in South-East Asia.
  • If global Temperature raises 1C then there will be a 10% reduction in rice production and 6% reduction in the worldwide production of wheat.
  • Climate change facts confirm that weather disaster has covered water insecurity, mental health problems, injuries and limited healthcare access. Due to weather disasters, more than 60,000 deaths occured in developing countries.
  • Air pollution is another climate factor that has raised worldwide death. Just because of pollution, 7 million elderly people and children have died.

Conclusion:

Important Measurement Units | Global Warming

Greenhouse gas emissions and global warming are one of the main factors behind climate change. These factors, you can measure by taking into account the temperature, precipitation, biomass, sea level, and other factors in consideration. For different areas, different factors have more importance. There has been a huge difference in carbon gas emission and global warming since the preindustrial era and our climate has become worse. These changes are now being measured (mainly from the last two decades) in terms of g/bhp-hr, g/kWh, and many other units depending on the measuring parameter considered. So, global warming can be dealt with on a combined level to yield higher output.

Emission and Sustainability Reporting Framework of Global Warming

by Shamsul February 27, 2022

Global Warming Reporting Framework for Environmental and Climate Change

Reporting Framework

Emission and sustainability-related data or reporting framework have become the need of the hour in order to maintain and observe a better climate. With each passing day, more individuals, companies, and countries are considering ways to acquire a better environment. Number of floods, droughts, hurricanes, and tornados are increasing. Such severe conditions are a critical point to ponder about the safety and quality of our lives, properties, wildlife, and health in each corner of the world. In such conditions, if you do not consider thoughtfully, the whole planet and the world will have to suffer, so it is a common goal of all responsible investors (environmental, social, and governance) to lead us all towards a better climate together.

The role of ESG holds an exceptional value in society, so a better understating of ESG means and ESG investing described below will help us all to consider the required steps for climate change control. If it is taken, many necessary steps can significantly decrease such situations, but only if we are ready to take those steps. Before considering such actions, data collection takes place and gives us a clear idea of what strategies should be adopted.

Scientists and experts have been throwing light on the fact that to survive and maintain our planet and whatever we have on it; we need to decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions exponentially. More than 190 countries have finally agreed on reducing GHG for a better atmosphere around us. In Paris agreement in 2016, the government of these countries decided to take severe actions to deal with emissions. Some emission reporting tools must be considered and then used for data collection to achieve the goal.

Essential Emission and Sustainability Reporting:

Before you take any action regarding GHG, you need to know its emission. At the minimum, 40 countries have made it crucial for their companies and various facilities to report their emissions within a specific period. The data collected by these facilities and companies play an essential part in the decision and policymakers’ next step regarding climate. It also helps track the relevant progress concerning the periodic data.

Through these channels, countries can identify various industrial sectors that create more emissions and the practices or processes involved. As a result, a transparent trading scheme and wide-scale goals are set.

GHG Reporting:

In 2009, the USA government made it necessary for all companies and facilities to report their GHG emission if they emit a minimum of 25000 metric tons of Carbon dioxide (CO2). Such reports are submitted annually, and it is safe to say that half CO2 emission of the whole US is due to such companies and facilities. USA was only behind China in emitting GHG, according to the reports of 2017.

California has also made GHG emission reporting a part of the law for companies to submit their emission report as stated by the Global Warming Act. Such reports are submitted to the state and environment protection agency (EPA).

Although most countries have taken steps to reduce such emissions, the countries that produce almost 80% GHG of the world climate are still unable to meet the promises that they made in the Paris Agreement.

Sustainability Reporting:

It requires that we use the resources in such a manner that we do not disturb the cycle of production for incoming generations to meet their needs through available resources. Sustainability accounting is necessary not only for our society to prosper for also for our coming generations to live a better life.

To create a sustainable environment and avoid alarming situations, we need to consider innovative and new choices that reduce the threats to society, the environment, and the economy. Any product, service, operation, or activity is beneficial for sustainability accounting only if it is an economically wise step. Government, non-government organizations, investors, and businesses should be clear about their approach towards sustainability. Now, various frameworks are being considered, and these help describe ESG impacts and the strategies to be considered a solution. Such reports and frameworks include both positive and negative aspects of various factors.

Such reports give a clear idea about the performance of companies. Also, the facilities are available according to the state’s parameters and laws. These also explain the influence of the outcomes and results and the expectations. In the end, such reports help find the relationship and comparison between different organizations’ sustainability behavior over time.

Emission and Sustainability Reports:

There are various climate monitoring systems through which reports are done. Such reports cover GHG inventory from almost all related fields like waste, forestry, energy, industrial processes, etc. Meanwhile, suitability reporting ESG goals and the county or company’s progress towards them is considered.

Emission Reports Coverage:

Such reports cover

  • Measurement of greenhouse gas emissions through various sources.
  • Respective policies, methods and actions to reduce the emission.
  • Strategies to reduce carbon usage.
  • Any technical or financial support required.
  • Comparison and analysis of any improvement.

Sustainability Reports Coverage:

Such reports cover

  • Different factors (environmental, social or government etc.) effect on sustainability.
  • Performance details of CSR (corporate social responsibility) regarding sustainability.
  • Triple bottom line method.
  • Waste reduction and increased efficiency.

Climate Reports:

Climate change is a change in the climate that occurs over a long period but creates massive damage to our surroundings. It can have various reasons, but the main reason is fossil fuel burning, resulting in increased GHG emissions.

Such Climate Reporting Framework reports cover

  • Greenhouse gas concentration.
  • Ice melting reasons and measurement.
  • Increased land temperature.
  • Increased ocean temperature.
  • Glacier melting.
  • Extreme weather conditions.

ESG Reports:

ESG reports conclude different data availability, its engagement, and relative approaches to consider in order to create a better environment with the help of corporates and industries of different scales.

Such Climate Reporting Framework reports include

Identification of risks to the environment and society

Opportunities to minimize these risks

Identifies more investable goals like clean water

Positive responses of already existing strategies

Thematic strategies for prior issues like clean energy etc

Many international organizations are working for the betterment of our society and the environment. A brief introduction of such organizations and the relative software is below.

CDP | Climate Reporting Framework

It is one of the most known non-profit charities that lay stress on reducing environmental risks. CDP is also an important organization that asks regions, states, companies, and investors to control such impacts through a global disclosure system.

In the last 2 decades, CDP has done remarkable work in reducing environmental issues and creating a system to reduce harm to the world.

CDP places its primary goals, transparency, accountability, and improvement and learning, available to all to succeed in the mutual goal. CDP is attaining this goal through its partners that have their offices and workplaces in more than 45 countries. Other than that, a total of 90 countries are participating in the mutual success towards a better future.

CDSB | Climate Reporting Framework

CDSB is a climate disclosure standards board, and it is an international NGO. This board integrates a reporting framework with the help of the value reporting foundation (VRF) and the international sustainability standards board (ISSB). It helps the investors to make use of environmental information through corporate reports and capital allocations. Its compliance-ready data aids in creating better solutions while analysts and companies can prepare and adopt a framework that addresses the opportunities, risks, and significant performance increment. It keeps launching new guidelines and improved methods to investors to reflect their sustainability reports with a more effective and relative approach.

GRI | Climate Reporting Framework

Global reporting initiative is an organization that aids different sectors of businesses, industry, and government to communicate and discuss the impacts of their actions on corruption, human rights, and climate change. It is the most extensive standard providing independent organization for sustainability reporting. It has more than 7 headquarters. With more than a thousand reports throughout the hundreds of countries, reporting practices enable stakeholders and organizations to make significant decisions that are beneficial for ESG aspects.

GRI sets impact reporting standards around the globe while following and advocating an independent process for the betterment of society and climate.

GWR | Climate Reporting Framework

Various human and industrial activities are responsible for climate heating on a wide scale. Indeed, fossil fuel burning is one of the main reasons for global warming. Global Warming reporting is necessary to measure climate change and reduce the universe’s temperature, which is rapidly increasing. Such reports measure temperature change, storm, infection, soil, etc., data through satellite and other methods and software. Deforestation is also one of the alarming reasons behind global warming.

CDP | Climate Reporting Framework

It is a software package through which accessible data is gathered for customers and companies to process it according to their needs. CDP is a customer data platform that will decide the global business success in this and upcoming centuries. It is a necessary measure for companies to reduce their GHG emission through calculating, comparing, and then reporting essential steps to create a better climate. CDP gathers the unified data at a greater level than any other platform, so it will be the leading software in the future.

Sustainability Accounting:

This is non-financial information regarding stakeholders and the firm’s social and environmental progress. It covers the ESG activities that create a direct influence on society. This tool is a sustainable platform for organizations to measure profit, planet, and people level sustainability. This tool works with GRI and reports any firm’s social and environmental routine in the form of a report. Although it is a non-financial sustainability tool, it is used with the help of the financial report so that the combined effort gives a better scope of how and when the resources can be used to minimize the risks.

These all reporting methods and suggested steps will help us create a better society and climate, so it is s necessary consideration at an individual, industrial, and government level.

Conclusion:

Climate Reporting Framework:

Although, emission and sustainability data reporting is the first step towards a better world. Moreover, companies, countries, and individuals should be aware of different reporting methods. It includes emission reporting, climate reporting, ESG reports, sustainability reporting, and the difference between them. Moreover, different non-profit and government organizations like CDP, CDSB, and GRI are helping diverse sectors of businesses to report their emission and sustainability-related data. This reporting is done with the help of such complex software. It helps individuals, companies, and governments to keep in check and make better policies.

5 Iconic Landmarks in the World That Are at Risk due to Climate Change

Our world is facing the severe impact of climate change in the form of rising global temperature, droughts, wildfires, and flooding. These things are hurting our iconic landmarks, and they are at huge risk. If it continues, then it can hurt our tourism and the beauty of nature. So, it is crucial to control climate change in order to protect these iconic landmarks. The following landmarks are at risk due to climate change.

Australia’s Great Barrier Reef | Iconic landmarks

This reef is a cluster of beautiful colors that extent more than 1400 miles. This reef is considered the most extensive coral reef system globally due to exotic marine life. But, this coral reef is at risk of disappearing due to climate change. According to reports, the main reason for the danger is rising sea levels. As a result, it is destroying the natural habitats of marine life. According to a report, more than 60 % of its living coral is dead because of this.

The Dead Sea | Iconic landmarks

The popularity of this sea is because it has incredibly salty water. Due to this reason, bathers only float on their surface. According to several reports, this sea is in danger due to global warming.

Its sea level is decreasing nearly 3 feet every year, which is a threat. This alarming ratio has created sinkholes that are linked to dams. Moreover, the minerals found in the Dead Sea are perfect for cosmetics and skin, so its extraction from the sea also hurts the Dead Sea. If it continues, the lake could be totally arid by the end of 2050.

Amazon Rainforst | Iconic landmarks

When it comes to the largest rainforest on the earth, this name will always come to your mind as it covers approximately 40 % of South America. Despite its vibrant life and gigantic size, the impact of climate change has increased the threat to various habitats. Excessive droughts are also damaging the unique species of trees. Right now, Amazon is facing the severe impact of global warming.

The Maldives:

The Maldives is a cluster of more than 1190 individual islands. There is no doubt that it is tropical heaven and one of the best destinations in the world. Unfortunately, things are not the same due to climate change’s dangerous impact. Rising water temperatures, increasing sea level, acidity, and other things, it is a chance that the island will be totally submerged in the future. These things are putting the Maldives in great danger.

The Alps | Iconic landmarks

It is no doubt the most famous and beautiful ski destination, but this Iconic landmark is also experiencing severe global warming impacts. Significance of Greenhouse & Climate Change

Green House Effect

Greenhouse Effect & Climate Change

What is Greenhouse?

A Greenhouse contains a proper structure with a roof and walls made up of transparent material like glass which helps plants grow in regulated climatic provisions. There are different shapes and sizes of greenhouse structures ranging from small huts to industrial size large buildings. Cold Frame is another name for a small greenhouse. In cold weather, plants get an ideal temperature as the inside area of the greenhouse is open to sunlight and heat is locked in; therefore, the area becomes warmer than the actual temperature.

Commercial hothouses or glass greenhouses give ultra-modern production options for fruits, flowers, and vegetables. Cooling, screening installations, lighting, and heating are some of the equipment used in glass greenhouses. Humidity, vapor pressure arrears, and air temperature are some techniques to assess optimality degrees. For ideal plant growth, these features are managed by the computer.

Prominent Greenhouse Types

1- Portable Greenhouse

The portable greenhouse allows growing your favorite plants in different climates. Side by side, the portable feature supports moving the greenhouse wherever you like. Before buying a portable greenhouse, you have to consider some points, such as

  • Available Space
  • Number of plants
  • Available budget
  • Durability you need
  • Heavy or light material
  • Easy setup procedure
  • Lightweight or wheel support

2- Wooden Greenhouse

Wooden greenhouse can be painted in any color to match the surrounding. Usually, wooden greenhouses are not durable as softwoods like cedar and pine. Mahogany, Accoya, or Teak wood greenhouses are the best to cope with durability issues. These have almost 10 to 20 years of life span.

3- Lean to Greenhouse

For urban gardening, people prefer to build a lean to greenhouse that is joined with the wall or any other structure. It contains three blocks of wood walls and one from another structure.

4- Cold Frame

Sometimes, farmers use low to the ground transparent cold frame to save the plants from weather effects, especially heavy rainfall and cold. The upper top is made up of transparent material to catch the sunlight without any getaway.

5-    Palram Greenhouse

Palram greenhouse is the most favorable investment for those who need a reliable compact greenhouse to protect plants in the cold season. Palram greenhouse can survive in harsh weather and are available in different styles and sizes.

What is Greenhouse Effect?

Greenhouse effect is a kind of procedure that works when the gases present in the atmosphere of Earth catch the heat from sunlight. As a result, our planet gets a favorable temperature for life to exist. In the absence of the greenhouse effect, it is impossible to continue life on this planet.

Greenhouse effect is comparable to the greenhouse that is used to provide favorable temperatures for plants to grow even in harsh weather. The quality of a greenhouse is warmer in the winter season because the glass walls catch the heat and make the inside environment warmer than outside around the clock.

The same procedure is followed by the greenhouse effect. There are gases in our atmosphere that catch the heat and increase the temperature. These are known as Greenhouse gases. Water vapors, ozone, nitrous oxide, methane, and carbon dioxide are some of the greenhouse gases that are liable to increase global temperature.

Significance of Greenhouse Effect

If heating is not caused by the greenhouse effect, there would be as low as -18C temperature on Earth. Venus has a great carbon dioxide concentration; therefore, it causes a tremendous greenhouse effect and a rise in temperature as high as 450C.

Impact of Climate Change

Climate change is related to variations in the climate of Earth at global, regional, and local levels. Within the last few decades, the term climate change is to explain the transformations in the climate of Earth caused primarily by human activity, mainly due to fossil fuel burning, elimination of forests, and rapid increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Heat is a type of energy that brings changes whenever it enters a system. It is a fact that every system in the worldwide climate system is working in a systematic way. The maximum portion of Earth is oceans.

Sunlight causes evaporation when the water heats up. More and more water vapors become part of clouds. As a result, energy-intensive storms (typhoons and hurricanes) form. The extreme climate is liable to intensify the hurricanes as the development of hurricanes connections are with sea temperature. Sea level rise shows the way to flooding in islands and coastal towns. Furthermore, a warmer environment leads melting of mountain snow and glaciers, the ice of Antarctica, and the Polar Icecap.

Gulf Stream Collapse

A scientific study has reported that the current system of the Atlantic Ocean is weakening and causing severe changes to the global weather. Gulf Stream collapse climate change thus, the weather pattern is poorly influenced. Sadly, climate change is responsible for causing Gulf Stream collapse because the release of greenhouse gases has increased the atmosphere temperature. Though this collapse will have severe side effects, failure is expected to boost the Northern Hemisphere cooling, rise in Atlantic sea-level rise, and significant fall in rainfall in North America and Europe.

How Global Warming Effect the Earth?

Do you know what global warming is? We are aware of the slow rise in the overall atmosphere temperature of Earth. The amount of energy or heat is increasing day by day as the number of greenhouse gases increases. The atmosphere of Earth is just like a greenhouse that captures heat to make sure that living beings are comfortable. In the absence of an atmospheric greenhouse, the temperature on Earth would be too cold. A greenhouse is comparable to Global warming when the reflective glass is fixed incorrectly. Today, our problem is too much heat in the greenhouse earth. Consequently, the temperature is rising faster than in the earlier period.

The reason behind the rise in Earth’s temperature is the greenhouse effect. Global warming is causing climate crises. When the industries on Earth emit more and more greenhouse gases, these will catch more heat and lead to global warming. It is why, ice caps are dissolving, and Sea level rise is high. These things impact on animal habitation and different species are getting extinct.

Reasons for Global Warming

Most of the emission of greenhouse gases is the result of human activities. Some of the causes of global warming are trash production, fossil fuel burning, and the production of livestock. However, these are some of the frequent human activities that make this Earth less inhabitable. Fluorinated gases such as CFC are not part of greenhouse gases. Our actions generate these. In 2014, IPCC reported the emission of greenhouse gas. According to this report, 65% carbon dioxide is released through fossil fuels, whereas 11% carbon dioxide, 2% fluorinated gases, 6% nitrous oxide are discharged from agriculture and forestry.

Greta Thunberg Environmental Activist

Furthermore, to show the true picture and alertness to the people about climate change and global warming, Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist, has challenged worldwide leaders to take severe actions against severe climate change. The activism started when Thunberg convinced her parents to choose a lifestyle with low carbon footprints. Even at the age of 15, she used to pass her days outside the parliament just to take action against the causes of global warming.

UNFCC & Climate Change Conference

Environmental crises have serious effects on Earth. Therefore, cop26 arranged a climate change conference in Glasgow. Boris Johnson UK prime minister, as well as the president of Cops 26 asked countries to ban coal use.

UN Climate Change secretariat UNFCC has given the task to support the large-scale response against Climate change.

UNFCC or United Nations Framework Convention to support Climate Change has 197 parties. The convention is working to maintain global temperature and stabilize greenhouse gas concentration. Regardless of United Kingdom’s pledges, major coal consumers (Australia, India & Chine) did not sign the coal phase-out deal. These are the countries producing almost two-thirds of worldwide coal.

What are Environmental Crises?

Basically, the causes of climate change and environmental crises are our planned activities. Our world is facing severe challenges; however, only a few discussions that the degradation of the environment will affect the well-being of human beings.

The effects of climate change are effecting in the form of damaged crops, causing invasive weeds and insects. If these things continue, it is possible that South Asia and Saharan Africa will face severe food shortages. Moreover, global warming will become the reason for infectious diseases like dengue, cholera, and malaria. Too much heat will also cause more respiratory and cardiovascular issues.

Environmental Change

Environmental change is the disorder of the environment usually happens by ecological processes and human influences. Moreover, different factors play a role in environmental change and global warming like animal interface, human intrusion, and natural disasters. Environmental change does not only bring physical changes. In fact, it causes the invasion of dangerous species.

Some environmental changes are highly controversial, such as

I- Climate Change

There are social and ecological effects of Climate change, but the severe effects in global temperature, sea level, precipitation patterns, ecosystem function, species distribution, climate zones, and ocean circulation.

II- Depletion of Ozone

Due to halocarbon, the atmosphere is getting polluted, which leads to a reduction of stratospheric ozone. The lack of this layer has become the reason for increasing ultraviolet radiations level on Earth. It is causing severe ecological and health issues.

III- Low Quality of Air

Air pollution has degraded the quality of air worldwide. It is causing cardiovascular illnesses and respiratory diseases. Moreso, some of them have damaged the vegetation as well.

IV- Low Water Quality

Pollutants have degraded the water quality. Terrestrial water is submerging in coastal waters and increases the phosphorus and nitrogen level. Oil spills, mining, industrial processes, plastic accumulation, and organic chemicals are the reasons for severe water degradation. In addition to low-quality water, water scarcity is becoming a major issue. Irrigation practices are also accountable for the shortage of local water sources as well as salinization.

V- Deforestation

It is evident through climate change that tropical forests are essential for the biosphere and ecosystem. Moreover, human beings have cleared almost half of the matured forests worldwide for pastoralism and agriculture, production of charcoal, and logging of trees for timber. These are essential for saving soil from corrosion, regulating climate, and providing habitat to animal and plant species.

VI- Loss of Biodiversity

The degradation of animal and plants habitat has threatened the extinction of various species. Biodiversity threats are `unlimited to the terrestrial ecosystem. In fact, there is a severe threat to coastal and marine life.

Only Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Efforts can Offer a Harmless Atmosphere

by Shamsul February 25, 2022

Only Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Efforts can Offer a Harmless Atmosphere

What is Sustainability?

17 Sustainability Development Goals to Maintain Resources & Eco Friendly Environment

A sustainable civilization is responsible and gives value to dynamic equilibrium and environmental safety in natural and human systems. Sustainability is the capability to maintain along with further development without reducing the natural resources. The Brundtland Report of the United Nations describes sustainability as progress to fulfill the current requirements without negotiating the skills of upcoming generations to accomplish their needs. It is supposed that there are limited resources; therefore, use cautiously to make sure that enough is left for forthcoming years, without compromising on the standard of the present life.

Worldwide Sustainability Issues & Solutions

In order to stop poverty, ensure prosperity, and save the planet, United Nations has launched SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). In 2015, the UN offered an agenda for a better world in 2030. The plan has 17 categories covering different issues. One hundred ninety-five nations have the same opinion for sustainable development. They promise to work to

  • Eliminate Hunger
  • Wipeout Poverty
  • Establish wellbeing and Health
  • Offer Good Education
  • Gender Equality
  • Economic Growth & Fair Work
  • Clean & Affordable Energy
  • Sanitation & Clean Water
  • Strong institutions, Justice & Peace
  • Developed Life
  • Quality Life below Water
  • Climate Action
  • Responsible Production & Consumption
  • Sustainable Communities & Cities
  • Work against Inequality
  • Better infrastructure
  • Develop Partnership to achieve Goals

Climate Change:

If we are concerned about kids’ Health, it is said that it gives value to climate change. Justice and Peace are necessary for job growth. For a healthy environment, work for gender equality. To promote education, focus on humanitarian needs.

These are interlinked issues. One problem is impossible to solve if other issues are overlooked. All the issues are inter-connected. United Nations presents a catalog of actions or SDG goals that are easy to carry. An ordinary man is capable of taking some actions for the improvement of worldwide Sustainability. These are related to people’s different decisions while selecting food to eat, buying things, places from where to buy things, nature of savings, and areas to travel. Small choices play a role in a sustainable standard of living.

UN sustainable development goals depend on individuals’ choices. Whatever you buy, just consider its lifecycle:

  • How can it be used?
  • Where did it originate?
  • How long will the substance use?
  • How will it discard after use?
  • What are the end results of a certain substance?
  • What are the benefits of buying substances?
  • Who will be influenced?

Whenever you are making a decision, consider different options and end results. If there is a better alternative for an eco-friendly planet, it is better to select the best solution and play your effective role.

Everyone, who is taking a vegetarian diet, every person using efficient appliances, every vote in support of SDG helps in developing a sustainable and eco-friendly future. If you are willing to make non-sustainable decisions in the form of consuming meat that you cannot give up, it is good to search for other sustainable options that you can do. If you have made one unsustainable selection, do not allow it to discourage you from playing a positive role in another area.

Three Momentous Sustainability Pillars

Environment sustainability is the liability to use natural resources and guard worldwide ecosystems to maintain wellbeing and health in the present and future. There are three fundamental columns of Sustainability, named Economic, Social, and Environmental, also regarded as Planet, Profits, and People.

1- Economic Growth

It is known as the plain type of Sustainability. In order to become sustainable economically, it is essential to have a profitable business and generate sufficient revenue for the future. It is challenging to obtain equilibrium through this Sustainability. Instead of getting money at any charge, companies need to follow sustainability rules while generating profit.

2- Social Development

It is related to sustainable treatment with employees. Adult employees and reasonably paid laborers can work in a safe environment. Paternity advantages, maternity benefits, flexible arrangement, development, and learning opportunities come under social development.

3- Environmental Safety

It is a very important factor that is related to the decrease of carbon footprints, wasteful procedures, non-decomposable packaging, and water usage. These are money-spinning, economically helpful, and environment-friendly processes.

Environment & Environmentalism

The environment is related to the natural landscape having non-human characteristics. Moreover, it is associated with human elements like pastoral and agricultural landscapes and urban areas.

The physical environment is based on surrounding elements and conditions with which different living things work. An environment is based on abiotic and biotic features, and these play a vital function in the survival, development, and evolution of organisms. The well-being of humans is associated with Environmental Health. World Health Organization has reported that 24% of deaths worldwide are the result of environmental factors. It is the first right of people to get fresh and clean drinking water, clean air to respire, and toxin-free places to live.

Environmentalism is generally connected with the environment and mainly acts to restrict negative human influence on the environment. It is a human habit to take care of the area where we live. We perform functions to keep the house warm, repair the damages and clean the garden. We are responsible for our home as well as its environment. Just like our home, Earth is the planet where we live. We are using the resources of Earth but ignoring our negative impacts.

 The Canadian Environment

Just like other countries, the Canadian environment is facing critical climate changes. Though the government maintains significant ecosystems, rivers, and lakes, the country generates wealth from gas and oil operations. This industry is accountable for almost a quarter of greenhouse gas release. In Alberta, the oil extracted is shipped through pipelines. The leakage of pipelines and dropping of oil from tankers have worried the government to take action and build new pipelines. People living in Canadian cities have poor air. It has also affected the water to grow vegetables and wildlife. Even acid rains in the cities are due to air pollution.

Environmentalism supports thinking broadly and taking care of the planet just like our home. Environmentalism leads to awareness of environmental issues and provides practical solutions to put things right.

Environmental Issues

The Earth has eight billion living, consuming its valuable resources and developing a polluted environment. When they consume on such a large scale and inefficient way, we will eliminate the resources and risk life in upcoming years. To sort out environmental issues, more focus should be on environmental science. It is an academic field that helps study the present environment and gets a way out for environmental issues.

Here are some of the serious environmental issues that people on Earth are facing now:

Resources

We buy things to meet our needs and throw most of these things without proper utilization. A large number of people live below the poverty line and have no clean water and healthy food. They are facing terrible health issues. Our Earth has limited resources that are depreciating fast. Moreover, minerals and Metals are materials that cannot support us for an extended period. These will end within a few decades.

Energy Supply

Physics makes it clear that nothing is possible on Earth without energy. Even food is a form of energy. We need the energy to cook, get warm surroundings, hot water, illumination, and run different gadgets. We have to make plans for getting energy in the future as most of the fossil fuels are nearly to end. Wind power, Tidal power, and solar power are renewable types of energy; however, fossil fuels like natural gas and coal oil will end up. It will take infinity years to get these fossil fuels back.

Pollution & Waste

Whatever we do, it creates some form of byproduct as waste. Before the beginning of the 20th century, waste was not a major issue. People used to consume animal waste and remaining food into compost. Nowadays, widely use of plastics has made recycling difficult. The plastics made up of petroleum are usually thrown away. It is important to collect the waste products and dispose of or recycle them. Even the waste in the form of gases is making our environment polluted. Some gases are impacting our greenhouse and causing great climate changes.

Species & Habitats

Basically, Earth is the home for animals and plants as well. We give value to our pets and ignore the other species on Earth. We are making factories, highways, and buildings and destroying the habitat of other species. It is often considered that other species have no rights. It is the need of the hour to think of different species and cooperate in providing them with a safe and clean environment. In this regard, more and more environmental jobs are available for human health and environmental protection.

Sustainable Development

Sustainability is closely connected to the environment and Sustainable development. Sustainability development is a kind of procedure to recover the quality of life and economic well-being while allowing future generations to benefit from environmental resources.

Environmental Activism

Environmental activism joins different groups of organizations and individuals to work in a cooperative environment in conservational, political, scientific, and social fields in order to address environmental issues. The organizations and individual groups are part of ecological Sustainability, green living, and the green movement. The Environmental agencies have one agenda: protection and preservation of this valuable environment.

The ideology of these agencies is to develop solutions to tackle environmental problems. There are three forms of environmental activism.

They are named as:

1- Networked (numerous linkage designed by overlapping membership),

2- Polycentric (group based on temporary and multiple areas of influences)

3- Segmentary (diverse groups that are joining for common interest).

Forms of Environmental Activism

1- Environmentalism Activism

It is a movement that works to improve and protect the environment. It influences the transformation of human activities with the help of economic and social-political organizations.

2- Political & Individual Action

It works to overcome the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The basic objective is to decrease the side effects of climate change.

3- Conservation Activism

Its objective is to save natural resources, animals, and plants.

4- Environmental Justice Activism

It is a social movement that works for the equal and justified distribution of burdens and benefits in the environment.

5- Ecological Modernization

It is said that development in the economy will benefit when it works for environmentalism.

6- Environmental Grassroots Activism

This organization works to support environmental change through freedom of expression and speech.

7- Eco-terrorism

Environmental activists support working against eco-terrorism.

8- Local Activism

It organizes the locals just to propose or oppose policies for a sustainable environment.

Sustainability Initiatives

If we need to survive and maintain our resources, bringing great environmental changes and taking necessary sustainability initiatives is crucial. Here are some of the exciting innovations that help in saving the beautiful planet:

a- Use of Disposable Masks

Each and every day, more than 4.3 billion blue masks are in use. The blue masks contain plastic. Therefore, these are difficult to dispose of. It is nice to reuse the polypropylene in these masks to make durable roads.

b- Biodegradable Candy Wrappers

PepsiCo and Diageo have planned to develop bottles free of plastic. Now, they will use wood pulp and paper bottles that are easy to recycle. Skittles and other sweets and candy makers have planned to use biodegradable wrappers made up of soy seeds and canola. These wrappers will not pollute the water and soil.

c- Sustainable Sneaker Industry

Surprisingly, the average creation of sneakers develops almost 30lb footprints of carbon. Now, Adidas and Allbirds have decided to make sustainable shoes with a carbon footprint of 2.94 lb.

d- Recyclable Plastic

Berkeley Lab has developed a unique polymer capable of utilizing for car parts and packaging. This material has a quality to recycle entirely without compromising on the quality.

e- Unilever’ Strategy to Cut Food Waste

The food industry is liable to emit 26% greenhouse gas. Unilever has taken serious action to reduce food waste from factory to shelf. It will cover the re-melting of ice cream and stirring up mayo with something before it gets out of order.

In short, Sustainability and environmentalism are highly beneficial for the short as well as long term. In case, the sustainable environment preferences are not fulfilled, it is impossible to maintain the ecosystems of Earth. Suppose damaging methods are carried on without specific changes. In that case, as we are thinking that we will not have sufficient fossil fuels, a variety of animal species will wipe out, and the environment will smash up irreparably. Only sustainable and eco-friendly efforts can offer a harmless atmosphere, resources development, cleanliness, quality water, and air.

National and Regional Regulatory Bodies for Climate Change

by Shamsul February 25, 2022

National and Regional Regulatory Bodies Responsible for Monitoring and Regulating Climate Change

Climate change has become the topic of discussion in each area of life as now we are familiar with its risks. The best solution includes learning accountability and taking measures to deal with the environment protection situation. You can gather valuable data only if the performance is being monitored continuously and a variety of regulating and monitoring tools including Regulatory Bodies are being considered. Many countries have set programs that measure the performance and discuss the resulting outcomes. Such programs report information according to the pre-set standards, and all they require is some guidance and key definitions. Each program is given a clear goal first, and then the framework monitors the performance and then regulates the desired and suggested changing steps.

National and Regional Regulatory Bodies:

National and regional regulatory bodies have the authority and responsibility to device rules and gather data related to the actions taken through those reports. These bodies also take part in sustainable development goals. Below a brief idea of such bodies is given at the national and regional levels.

The head of such arrangements is the director-general of environment or climate change. He runs an environment wing whose responsibilities and duties include:

  • Environment or climate change monitoring
  • Environmental Legislation
  • Data gathering related to international, inter-provincial, or regional climate issues.
  • Issues regarding sustainable development.
  • Risk to sustainable urbanization
  • Threat to common, easy, and prime goals like water and sanitation.

Such regulatory bodies are responsible for regulating various agreements, which might include the Kyoto Protocol and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and other cleaning and development mechanisms.

Such bodies also work in collaboration with SACOSAN, SACEP, UN-HABITAT, UNICEF, UNEP, and other national or international governmental or non-profit NGOs. These bodies also celebrate environment days and arrange seminars and awareness programs. These authorities also formulate annual policies and frameworks for climate change monitoring.

Regulatory Agencies:

Each state has its own national and regional agencies or regulatory bodies to regulate climate-related matters. EPA is U.S. Environmental Protection Policy responsible for zero-emission planning.

It covers passenger vehicles and other means creating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. EPA is working on reducing GHG emissions till 2026 with the help of sustainable light trucks and passenger cars. Its revised summary has clear guidelines to achieve its goal till 2026. It is also trying to reduce the use of hydrofluorocarbons along with industrial pollutants.

EPA is not only restricted to the U.S., but it has two-sided programs working in many countries. Its programs are one of the prime factors for climate control in underdeveloped countries. It helps regions like Nigeria, the pacific, Asia, Antarctica, Europe, the Middle East, Eurasia, the Caribbean, and South Africa work towards a better climate. Other countries can obtain crucial guidance and support through the EPA’s climate change-related priorities.

EPA Pakistan covers water, air, noise, and soil pollution as its main priority. It has a complaint and legal section and provides impact assessment and technical help in its different provinces. EPA Pakistan has even dedicated a complete unit for any environment-related complaint, which is considered urgent.

Governmental Regulations | Regulatory Bodies

Climate changes are getting severe each day, and government needs to create affection regulations to achieve better and long-term results. In such cases, the government’s primary objective should be the GHG reduction and accelerate the progress with the help of companies, cities, and different regional regulatory bodies.

  • Below given regulations are part of almost every governmental agency:
  • Clean air through reduced GHG and methane emission.
  • Setting standards for different equipment’s energy efficiency; energy policies for private and public sectors.
  • Setting motor vehicles’ fuel economy standards.
  • Evaluation of climate change causing global security issues and related defense plan.

Such steps are based on analytical data, but the only difference between the worthy output and them is the implication of the outcomes of such reports.

Regulations Climate Change:

Different regulations regarding climate change are effectively implemented in various countries, but there is still a gap between the expected results. This gap is not due to the rules set but due to its lawful implementation. Although carbon tax increases energy consumption charges, which creates a huge burden, the issue remains the same.

A proposal of implementation of such taxes will help authorities to implement the actual plan more effectively as the extra charges will force consumers to consider behavioral changes and reduce GHG emissions. Such taxes are supposed to minimize GHG use by 58 million metrics in a time span of 30 years.

Regulatory bodies and regulations are necessary to reduce any risk to climate. Still, sometimes it is more critical to use means like taxes or other fines to take the rules more seriously. If the reduction in GHG emission reduces the effectiveness of that specific industry and slows the progress significantly, then there is a need to reconsider the whole process. In such cases, should take a relative comparison of economic output and carbon emission into account, and the decision should be based on these.

Environment Protection Regulatory Bodies

Environmental protection authorities and legislations are working for their cause, but does economic analysis favor this? Do we deserve to have a better climate at the cost of a doomed economy?

The U.S.A. is usually blamed for preferring climate over the economy as an enormous amount is being spent on EPAs. Although it is beneficial to us, the spending is quite large than the benefit, so if we ignore environmental protection, is this money really spent in the right place? Such questions always come to our minds whenever climate change is under discussion so a clear discussion will be helpful.

Another myth is that EPA is reducing job opportunities, but how can environmental protection agencies reduce employment opportunities? If we take a deep look at various numbers, we can observe that the amount we spend on health care products is almost equal to what we spend on a sustainable environment. On the other hand, EPAs are increasing the job opportunities, so overall, we can conclude that we are achieving more than what we are losing.

Environmental Authority:

When we talk about the role of environmental authorities, national environment and management authority (NEMA) is the first name to emerge in our mind. Since 2002, NEMA has been responsible for collecting environmental data by using government policies and principal instruments.

The responsibilities of national environment and management regulatory bodies include:

  • Supervising the management activities of various agencies and creating coordination between them.
  • Keeping track of natural resources.
  • Guiding regarding legal planning resources.
  • Conducting surveys and research for environmental findings.
  • Considering human and financial resources for a better future.
  • Marking climate-related standards.
  • Assessing the activities that might be a threat to society.

The policies set by NEMA are also noteworthy in environmental betterment. The directors and boards of NEMA are selected and appointed by the president itself. It has a minimum of 7 members that are not public servants, so you say that NEMA is working without any pressure.

Environmental Regulator:

This broad term includes political, ethical, scientific, and technical interests and principles regarding climate change. Different nations and regions have environmental regulations, but the common goal is always the same. The more comprehensive scope consideration enables and recommends a better and more worthy effort with better results than before.

It has always been a part of a controversy that environmental regulations are the leading reason behind unemployment, but there cannot be any logical explanation for this. Between 1780 to 1880, the U.S. considered legislation to improve the environmental conditions. With the passage of time, many other countries developed an independent ministry of environment (Italy, France, Ireland, Sweden, Austria, United Kingdom, and Germany).

Global Warming Regulation:

Global warming is a significant issue, but the more alarming fact is that most states are even denying their contribution to this. American countries are pretty serious in their efforts to reduce GHG emissions, but on the other hand, they are also facing trouble to manage the growth of the economy. America has the potential to provide insightfulness and the guide along with resources o many countries in order to understand the cope climate issues bitterly. Still, other than a few former Mayors or presidents, most of them are the exception.

GWR is facing many issues and dangers to show the full potential results. One of the main issues is the flexible implementation that is specific but not so according to the need of the new technology, so some gaps make compromise the quality and extent of performance. Some rules and laws do not give much space to hide, but others are sometimes too flexible as regulations have to be exact.

Are Private Businesses are Interested?

The main question in this issue is whether even the business is actually willing to take part in it or not? Are they concerned about the environment or just acting?

Some interest groups on the government and industrial sides are challenging obstacles to success. We all need regulatory bodies with some rules and regulations given to us by authorities to create a better climate. At the same time, it is as beneficial to us as it is to the government. Such regulations and legislations should be as familiar, non-controversial, and accurately implemented as are traffic laws. Everyone knows what red light means and the speed limit so is the case with environmental regulations.

Still, the primary and only difference is that people and facilities do not bother about GHG emissions and ESG aspects, but they all follow traffic rules. The basic need of the hour is for all of us to communicate this issue and play our part. This is a common goal. If a flood comes, all of us can be on either side together, depending on our actions today.

Conclusion

Regulatory Bodies for Climate change:

Climate change has become a global issue and it can only be dealt with through our personal and collective effort. For this purpose, different regional and national regulatory bodies should be responsible for relevant data monitoring and regulation. Various regulatory agencies (like EPA from the U.S.) and NGOs are in work. Governments have certain regulations for this purpose and different authorities are taking monitoring climate change, global warming, and sustainability data. But data gathered will never be of much help unless we are ready to take any action as a team.

Europe’s Darkest Time Since WWII – Russian Invasion of Ukraine

Europe’s darkest time since WWII – Russian invasion of Ukraine

On Thursday, February 24, 2022, Russian forces invaded Ukraine by sea, land, and air, which eventually confirmed the fears of the Western world that another state would attack one big state in Europe since World War II. Russian invasion of Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks about authorizing a special military operation in Ukraine’s Donbas region during a special televised address on Russian state TV, in Moscow, Russia, February 24, 2022, in this still image taken from video. REUTERS TV

Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted in a speech on Wednesday night that a ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine will take place. Hours after the speech, multiple news organizations reported several explosions in different Ukrainian cities, and there was evidence of larger military troops in the country undertaking operations.

Troops Built up Across the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Luhansk Regions – Russian invasion of Ukraine

Tens of thousands of troops have been built up across the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Luhansk regions and are rendered to be the largest military conflict over European soil in decades. Troops are also found at port cities of Odesa and Mariupol in the south. Russian missiles were raining down Ukrainian cities, and before dawn, Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine, heard sirens and multiple explosions.

Analyzing the facts of previous days, it appears that Kremlin has been planning for the war as most preparations were in place – moving of military equipment, medical units, including blood, over to the front lines. According to a statement issued by President Joe Biden, Russia has positioned more than 150,000 troops near Ukraine. As against the backdrop, the United States and its allies were in talks with Russia. However, no solution was yet yielded from these talks.

The conflict remains to be the future of Ukraine; however, Ukraine, being a larger state for Russian invasion, appears that this act is a reassertion of Russian influence within the European region and for Putin to strengthen his legacy. Putin considers these to be no small things and that the only way to attain is to launch an attack within Ukraine. This very aggressive act can result in tens of thousands of civilian deaths, the crisis of European refugees, and harsh sanctions as a part of the response from the Western world that will also impact the global economy.

The Roots of the Current Crisis Grew from the Disintegration of the Soviet Union – Russian invasion of Ukraine

When the Soviet Union disintegrated in the early 90’s Ukraine, also the former Soviet Union, possessed the third-largest atomic arsenal in the world. Both the United States and Russia joined hands with Ukraine and worked towards denuclearizing the country. Within a series of diplomatic agreements, Kyiv handed back hundreds of nuclear warheads to Russia in exchange for security reassurances, which was considered a security reassurance that would protect it from a potential Russian attack.

All these reassurances were tested in 2014 when Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia seized the Crimean Peninsula and backed a revolt led by pro-Russia separatists in the eastern Donbas region. The assault from Russia resulted in mass protests within Ukraine that collapsed the country’s pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych (partially over his rejection of a trade agreement with the European Union).

At that time, President Barrack Obama was somewhat hesitant to escalate tensions with Russia and was eventually relatively slow in mobilizing a diplomatic response within Europe and failed to provide offensive weapons to Ukraine immediately.

The post-Soviet Europe premises also have a lot to play in the current conflict. Putin is stuck over reclaiming some appearance of empire lost within the fall of the Soviet Union. Ukraine is central for the vision. According to a statement by Putin, “Russians and Ukrainians are one people – a single whole”. Russian invasion of Ukraine

NATO Membership – The Rising Conflict – Russian invasion of Ukraine

The tensions between Russia and Ukraine started to go out of control in 2021. In January 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged President Joe Biden to let the country be a member of NATO. This bolstered anger within Russia which had already started sending troops in spring to the Russian-Ukrainian border for ‘training exercises’ increased during autumn. In December, President Joe Biden hyped up the deployment of troops alongside the border and warned Russia of severe sanctions in case of an invasion.

Ukraine’s orientation toward the EU and NATO was indefensible for the national security of Russia. The prospects of Ukraine joining NATO further antagonized Putin after expressing support towards the idea by President George W. Bush in 2008. This support drove the Russians crazy and made the entire amplification issue a complicated one.

No country can be a part of the alliance without attaining a unanimous buy-in by all 30 member countries, and most of the NATO countries opposed the membership of Ukraine in detail since it failed in meeting the conditions on democracy and the rule of law.

Russian invasion of Ukraine situation placed Ukraine in an impossible position, an applicant for the NATO alliance, which is not going to be accepted while stirring a potential conflict next door without having been assured of any protection on the part of NATO.

What does Russia Want?

The Russian-Ukraine crisis can be referred to as a continuation of the one initiated in 2014.

However, recent political developments with Ukraine, the US, Europe, and Russia explain well why Putin initiated such an act.

The political developments include the Ukrainian Presidential election in 2019 and the holding of tenure by Volodymyr Zelensky, who was a comedian playing President over television and then, later on, became the actual President. Additionally, Zelensky also promised that he would ‘reboot’ peace talks for ending conflict within eastern Ukraine, including a direct deal with Putin to bring the conflict to an end.

Russia demands Zelensky to implement the 2014 and ’15 Minsk agreements, which will bring pro-Russian regions back to Ukraine but may serve as a ‘Trojan horse’ for Moscow to exert control and influence. These terms are simply unacceptable by any president holding Ukrainian decisions. So Zelensky, under continued and severe Russian pressure, turned heads towards the West and openly talked about joining the NATO alliance in Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Even the public opinion in Ukraine swayed in support of ascension into western bodies like NATO and EU. This stirred a feeling in Russia that it has exhausted all political and diplomatic tools to bring Ukraine back to fold, resulting in the current act as military cooperation between Ukraine and NATO will become even more intense and sophisticated.

What will happen if Russia invades?

A view shows the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service site damaged by shelling in the Kyiv region, Ukraine, in this handout picture released February 24, 2022. Press service of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service/Handout via REUTERS ATTENTION EDITORS – THIS IMAGE HAS BEEN SUPPLIED BY A THIRD PARTY.

In 2014, hybrid warfare was seen on the part of Putin by the deployment of unconventional tactics such as cyber hacks, irregular militias, and disinformation. There are chances that Moscow will take aggressive steps without moving Russian troops across the borders. This will escalate the proxy war and result in sweeping disinformation campaigns and hacking operations.

There are many scenarios for the Russian invasion, including deploying more troops within breakaway regions of Ukraine, blockading the country’s access to waterways, and seizing strategic regions or a full-on war, which can be evidenced by attacking Kyiv in an attempt to overtake the country. This can be very devastating as the more expansive the operations will be, the more catastrophic it will become.

What is Happening Now?

Ukraine has definitely managed to become the topmost priority for the Biden administration in the light where the President had many plans, including China, the pandemic, and climate change. The US has deployed almost 3,000 troops across Europe to show solidarity for NATO and will reportedly send additional 3,000 troops to Poland. In association with its allies, including the UK, the US has issued numerous warnings to Ukrainian citizens to leave the country immediately. The US has also closed its embassy in Kyiv, and the operations are temporarily moved to Western Ukraine.

Biden administration and its allies are planning to draft an aggressive strategy to punish Russia and have it invade again. The so-called nuclear options – gas and oil embargo – cutting off Russia from the SWIFT, electronic messaging services through which global financial transactions are made possible, appears to be unlikely because of its consequences of hurting the global economy. This is because Russia is a significant economy which is involved a lot of trade, especially in the oil, gas, and raw materials.

Reportedly, the toughest sanctions Biden administration has planned are some level of financial sanctions over Russia’s biggest banks on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Penalties on Russian oligarchs are also being considered. Additionally, Nord Stream 2, the completed; however, not yet functioning gas pipeline between Russia and Germany may also get damaged in case Russia plans to escalate tensions.

Biggest Challenges to Achieve Sustainable Environmental Issues

The world faces several biggest Challenges like climate challenges, global warming challenges, sustainability challenges, and other related problems. You can find plenty of articles on sustainability. The real meaning of sustainability is to utilize natural resources to fulfill your needs without compromising the environment’s future. Sustainability requires both economic as well as social resources.

United Nations and countries are working to create a sustainable environment by focusing on renewable energy sources, planting trees, protecting the environment and ecosystems. Our responsibility is to provide a safe and green environment to future generations by reducing our carbon footprint. There are various challenges that we should address on a priority basis to save our beautiful world.

Sustainability is the only way to protect ecological health, the natural environment, and humans. We must bring innovation in our lifestyle from driving to living.

What are the Major Environmental Challenges?

We are witnessing that our environment is constantly changing. Due to the huge influx of weather, natural disasters, and other climate patterns, we should understand what environmental problems our world is facing. Currently, global warming is the major challenge affecting our environment. On the other hand, this is not the only issue. We are facing numerous problems in the current world every day. Some problems are minor, but some are very dangerous. Environmental problems are related to soil, water, air, etc. that are really important for the development of humans and the planet.

These environmental crises make us susceptible to tragedies and disasters. We should pay proper attention to these issues to address them.

Here are some major environmental problems our world is facing currently:

Pollution:

These are air, water, thermal, soil, light, noise, and radioactive. They are 7 types of pollution that our world is facing right now. Plastic, motor vehicle exhaust, heavy metals, and chemicals are some pollutants. The burning of fossil fuels is also creating pollution as they release greenhouse gases. These factors are hurting our environment in so many different ways.

1- Degradation of Soil:

The world is witnessing food scarcity due to the variation in weather conditions and soil degradation. Our soils cannot grow crops, and it is considerable tension. We damage our soil through overgrazing, exposure to pollutants, and land-use conversion.

2- Global Warming:

Climate changes such as global warming are the consequence of human activities in the form of greenhouse gas emissions. It is leading to the rising temperature of the earth and oceans. As a result, we are vulnerable to disasters like rising sea levels, flooding, melting of polar ice caps, drought, and excessive snow.

3- Increasing Population:

Right now, overpopulation is one of the biggest concerns because it has reached unsustainable levels. Due to the increasing population, natural resources like water, food, and oil have decreased. It leads to the scarcity of resources and is currently the central issue in environmental problems.

4- Depletion of Natural Resources:

The depletion of resources such as oil, food, and water is one of the main environmental issues. It is accelerating the issues such as air pollution, overpopulation, and industrialization. We should use alternative resources to decrease the consumption of natural resources for the future. Different countries are experiencing severe energy crises, and it is because of the depletion of natural resources, including fossil fuels. By focusing on renewable energy sources like wind, solar, geothermal, etc. we can reduce the impact of global warming and climate change.

5- Deforestation:

Plants and trees naturally absorb gases like CO2 and give fresh oxygen. Due to the deforestation for food, cloth, and shelter, we are losing our natural protection and polluting the environment. Instead of growing more trees, we are cutting green spaces for farms and housing. Governments and individuals are taking the initiative to grow plants.

6- Climate Change:

Climate change is another significant environmental issue that is increasing day by day. It is occurring because of the increasing global warming, rising temperature, and burning of fossil fuels. These factors affect humans and nature in the form of severe changes in weather patterns, floods, and droughts.

7- Water Pollution:

Clean water is necessary for life, and we are polluting our natural drinking water reservoirs by mixing pollutants. It is a big problem because these wastes pollute our drinking water and pose major threats to humans and their health.

Global Warming Challenges: What are the Bad Impacts On Earth?

Credit: Ecode

The slight temperature rise is enough for disastrous change. The overall weather of the world is increasing slightly because of the emission of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide. It is impacting our ecosystem, living thing, and us. Human influence is responsible for global warming, increasing pollution levels, and deforestation. The blanket of gases like CO2, soot, and methane around the earth is trapping the heat of the sun and increasing the earth’s temperature. Ozone layer depletion is another issue that allows the sun’s heat to reach the planet’s surface. As a result, its temperature rises. This warming is changing the earth’s weather pattern.

Severe Weather Conditions:

This change in weather pattern shows many challenges for the climate. Increasing temperature means the wet areas become more soaked and dry areas become drier. Higher temperatures worsen various disasters like droughts, heatwaves, droughts, floods, etc. When these disasters occur, they contaminate water, destroy properties, and generate multiple diseases. Currently, we are experiencing all the catastrophes mentioned above and jeopardizing our lives.

Increasing Death Rates:

Global warming and its effects possess a drastic impact on people’s health globally. It poses severe health threats for people as well as animals and plants. The threats could be direct or indirect, but they can create severe illness. These effects impact children and elders. In some particular regions of the world, people are not so much used to heat, so they can’t bear severe hot weather.

Wildlife Extinction:

As a human, we can face different weather patterns by utilizing electronics. But, wildlife is totally dependent on climate, and when the temperature raises it wildlife. As sea and land undergo severe changes, the animals are disappearing because they can’t bear harsh weather conditions.

Rising Sea Levels:

Due to the melting down of polar ice caps, the sea levels are rising, threatening coastal systems and islands. Our polar areas are also vulnerable to a rising temperature. There is no denying that climate change possesses a frightening future, and it is really difficult to cope with these issues. Reducing global emissions of gases is the only solution to protect the environment.

Economic and Social Sustainability Challenges:

Businesses and social lives are some of the main victims of sustainability challenges. Our economic and social life is really susceptible to global warming, climate change, and sustainability challenges. Companies need to redesign, redevelop, and rethink their working pattern to reduce carbon footprint and emission of gases. They need to adopt more sustainable ways in the form of renewable energy sources and proper waste management. Sustainable challenges are creating different problems for both developed and developing countries in regard to health, education, unemployment, poverty, and culture. Civil societies, governments, and individuals can play a big role in implementing sustainable practices. It also involves fair trading, energy consumption, transparency, and other standards to make businesses socially sustainable. Here are some economic and social sustainability challenges in the world right now:

Unemployment and Poverty:

By working on alternative energy sources and sustainable practices, companies can create more job opportunities for youth. Due to old-fashioned practices and economic culture, it is hard to create jobs for people. As a result, we are witnessing unemployment and poverty in both emerging and developing markets.

Climate Change and Proper Monitoring:

We are facing negative consequences in business due to climate change. We should monitor how companies are following sustainable development goals (SDGs). Proper monitoring is crucial to reduce GHG emissions and other factors that affect the climate. Monthly-based monitoring would be a great opportunity for gaining more insight into particular areas.

Factors Influencing Businesses:

Sustainability is not all about the green approach. It holds many factors such as reduction of carbon footprint, waste management, and recycling. Everyone should perform their duty to aware communities and people to practice environment-friendly activities to make our world a better place for humans and other living things. We need to educate our children so that we can provide them with a better world.

How can we Tackle Sustainability and Environmental Challenges?

We can cope with environmental and global challenges by using public transport, electric vehicles, cheap and renewable energy sources. It is necessary to recycle plastic and other hazardous things that can affect our climate. Make your homes and building energy-efficient by utilizing solar, wind, or geothermal energy sources. Industries and manufacturing corporations can adopt sustainable practices to make sustainable products. However, it is a complex process, but some companies and individuals are working hard on these goals. By practicing these sustainable goals, we can give a safe future to our kids.

Conclusion:

Right now, the biggest problem our world facing is climate change. There are several challenges and hurdles in the way of sustainability like pollution (water and air), improper waste management, excessive use of fossil fuels, greenhouse gas emissions, depletion of the ozone layer, and many more. Global warming is another crucial factor in this regard that is hurting our environment. Well, there are numerous solutions to reduce the impact of climate change but they require some serious adaptation, policies, and regulations. Finding renewable energy sources is important but they need huge investments. So, we should be ready for any kind of climate condition in the future.

Exploring Alternative Energy Sources  to Save the Climate

Alternative energy sources are critical in the fight against climate change. Humanity has an immense need for power and electricity. Without a reliable energy supply, many important utilities we take for granted such as transportation, heating, and lighting among others, will not be possible.  When we generate power from fossil fuels, Green House Gases that significantly affect the climate are emitted.  By focusing on developing and utilizing renewable energy sources, we increase our ability to meet our energy needs without compromising having a safe and clean future.

Wind and Sunlight are two primary sources of alternative energy. Although their availability depends on weather conditions and time, these sources hold significant clean power generation potential. These and other renewables will be required to rapidly replace conventional emission-emitting power-generating sources. This will directly result in less carbon emissions and pollution.  Which ultimately leads to a more sustainable environment?

Considering these benefits, it is crucial to be conversant with what exactly renewable energy is. A knowledge of its sources, types, and benefits puts you in a better position to exploit them and live sustainably. You must exploit emerging technologies to create more energy-efficient sources to save the climate.

The Downsides of Energy Generator from Fossil Energy

Emissions generated from non-renewable sources such as coal, oil, and gas could be harmful to the environment. Unfortunately, conventional energy sources are the basis upon which current civilization was built. When note managed properly, this has created negative by-products as – poor air quality, weather and climate change, and increasing health risks. Perhaps the most dangerous and far-reaching side effect of not sustainably consuming conventional energy is global warming.

Types of Alternative Energy Sources

Solar Energy:

Our sun provides one of the largest sources of energy and we have been utilizing its energy for centuries. Our ancestors used the sun’s heat to warm and preserve food while plants have used its light to aid photosynthesis.  With modern technological advancement, we are now able to harness and convert solar energy to electricity via photovoltaics. In many countries, solar energy is a widely used source of clean energy. You only need to look around you to see solar panels on the rooftop of houses. Solar energy significantly helps in reducing carbon emissions, which is a good thing for our climate.

Wind Energy:

Wind turbines are able to use the kinetic energy in the wind, a natural resource to drive a system of pulleys, gears, and more recently turbines to generate energy. This makes them a very credible renewable energy source. Within locations that witness high average wind speeds, they can reliably generate clean power. In these regions, you typically find wind turbines in open plains, hilltops, and even offshore.  In the past few decades, many countries have invested in wind energy projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Hydroelectric Power:

Hydropower is also an established renewable energy source. It basically harnesses the potential and kinetic energy in a large body of water. Sometimes, nature presents natural waterfalls or fast-flowing streams where a turbine is driven by the flowing or falling water to generate electricity. However, to really harness this energy source, we design dams to hold back millions of liters of water. To generate power, this is channeled in a controlled manner to series outlets at the bottom of the damn to drive massive turbines which in turn generate electricity. It is clean and renewable.

Biomass Energy:

This energy source covers energy generation from unlocking the chemical energy stored in organic material via a process of combustion. In its simplest forms, it involves the burning of wood and leaves to create heat for domestic and industrial purposes. It is a major source of energy in many parts of the developing world. However, recent technologies have made cutting-edge transformations to this energy source. Biofuels are now been derived from Biomass to generate more cleanly burning fuels that emit less harmful gases and are less adverse to the environment.

Geothermal Power:

Have you ever got a chance to relax in a hot spring? Yes, that is geothermal energy in action. Just like the sun’s surface, the core of the earth is formidably hot. Some naturally occurring geological features allow this heat from the earth’s core to come close to the surface, contract groundwater aquifers which in turn generate the hot springs we see. When geological conditions are right, we are also able to drill into the earth’s core to tap into the hydrothermal source with the help of a steam turbine, produce electricity. It is widely believed that with sufficient advancement, = geothermal power could become a significant part of the global energy mix.

Nuclear Energy:

When we split or fuse nuclei of atoms together, tremendous heat energy is released. This energy, when harnessed properly used to generate steam and drive steam turbines. It is a very hazardous process, but with the right engineering design, a reliable and sustainable source of electricity. Many global industrial hubs utilize this source of energy. There have been a few catastrophic incidents with this source of energy in the past. However, the potential emission-free energy it provides makes it remain a viable source of renewable energy.

Advantages of Using Alternative Energy Sources: Reduce Dependence on Fossil Fuels:

Fossil fuels are a finite resource. It is also become more difficult and expensive to extract energy from fossil sources. In addition, fossil fuels generate significant Green House Gas Emissions. Therefore continued reliance on fossil fuels only for energy will become more expensive and may continue to negatively impact the environment. This makes a strong case for exploring more sustainable sources of energy.

Reverse Climate Change

The primary purpose of using renewable energy sources is to reverse and slow climate change. The climate is changing very rapidly due to greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of the ozone layer. The emission of carbon dioxide is a big concern, and alternative energy sources have less carbon intensity on the environment. Fixing the global energy supply mix to include more renewable energy sources will help in a journey to environmental sustainability.

Reduces Air Pollution:

The air quality in many major cities in the world is presently unsafe with a threat of chronic illnesses showing up in the coming years.

The main contributors are the GHG emissions and other pollutants that are released when fossil fuels are combusted. Switching to more sustainable sources will result in less air pollution, better air quality, and better health.

Reduces Extreme Weather Conditions:

Due to global warming and climate change, we witness severe weather changes such as extreme hotter and colder temperatures. It also brings unnecessary problems like floods, storms, droughts that are the consequences of global warming. By adopting renewable energy sources, we can decrease the impact of global warming.

Minimizes Fuel Consumption:

Most energy-producing plants run on fossil fuels like oil and gas. We can cut fuel consumption by exploiting alternative energy sources. It helps to minimize carbon footprint and also conserve power.

Creates Jobs:

By investing in the manufacturing and installation of renewable energy sources, we can create job opportunities for people. It helps to strengthen economic conditions as well as the sustainable energy industry.

Role of Electric Companies in Renewable Energy Sources:

When it comes to green energy sources, duke energy will not disappoint you. Many electric companies like Ambit Energy, Atmos Energy, We energies, Nevada energy, and Dominion energy produce alternative energy sources to make your houses and buildings energy-efficient. It is a big responsibility for electricity-producing companies to reduce their carbon footprint globally. They are committed to making sustainable energy sources and protecting the climate. Electricity obtained from wind and solar is really beneficial for our environment, and these sources are recyclable.

Future of Alternative Energy:

Due to the increase in the population, electricity demand is also rising for homes, communities, and buildings. Innovation and development in the alternative energy sector are crucial to managing sustainability and climate change. Currently, renewable energy holds 26 % of the world’s electricity. Firstly, it is vital to increase this ratio to reduce the usage of fossil fuels. Secondly, try to cut your electricity bills and drive electric cars to reduce your carbon footprint. Moreover, invest in solar and wind energy programs to produce electricity. It could save your environment from global warming and greenhouse gases. Various alternative energy sources can help you to create a better world.

Conclusion

AlternativeEnergy Sources

Whether for reasons of climate change, or if only to extend the lifespan and availability of fossil fuels for future generations, we must substitute, as widely as possible, these fossil fuels, and, for that, make the best use of renewable energies: solar, onshore or offshore wind, hydraulic. All these energies, except hydraulics, are alternatives.

It is necessary to make extensive use of chemistry to allow the development of photovoltaic cells, materials for batteries, components for electrochemical storage, or fuel cells.

Suppose you want to meet the challenges of renewable energies. In that case, it is necessary to implement sustainable management of the cycle of raw materials (steel or strategic metals such as rare piles of earth): extraction from the mine, production, and use, recycling, emissions, and loss of raw materials and energy. Chemistry is present at all these stages.

Ongoing climate or environmental change challenges have increased the demand for renewable or alternative energy sources. Moreover, the consumption pattern of electricity, water, and fossil fuel decreases the number of natural resources. On the other hand, alternative or renewable energy sources like solar, wind, or everything in between is perfect for our environment because they release a minimum amount of CO2 other gas emissions. These alternative energies can strengthen our automotive, textile, and other industries without any concern about climate change. It is vital to develop and promote alternative energy sources for both commercial and residential use. These energies can also play a significant role in economic progress, technology development, weather, and energy costs.

Global Climate Change – A simple Guide

Main Keyword: Climate Change

Global Climate Change – A simple Guide

The word “Climate Change” has been in the headlines for the last few years. It refers to changes in weather patterns. These changes may be artificial, natural, or everything in between. It is one of the biggest concerns these days, and human activities are the primary culprit in this regard. We are affecting our climate by burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal.

Greenhouse gases are continuously threatening our earth and these gases emit due to the burning of fossil fuels. These gases are catching the heat of the sun and rising temperatures. Methane and carbon dioxide are two major greenhouse gas emissions that are responsible for climate change. Industries, agricultural lands, landfills, and transport are some of the main emitters of these gases.

There are numerous causes of environmental changes, occurring differently. The eruption of huge volcanoes is one of the main environmental problems that release small particles into the air that blocks sunlight, resulting in a change of environment. That’s why we have been experiencing severe warm and cold seasons for the last ten years. This climate shift shows climate change and hurting our earth. The cutting of lands and forests is another big contributor to climate change. It is known as desertification and results in drylands and unfertile soil.

Ozone Layer Depletion:

Radiations like UVA and UVB that emit from the sun directly reach the earth’s surface due to the depletion of the ozone layer. Consequently, the temperature of the planet is getting higher and higher. On the other hand, these rays pose many risks for the environment and human health. These rays are really harmful to your skin, hair, and eyes. Also, these rays damage plants such as their development and growth process. In short, ozone layer depletion is one of the biggest reasons for climate change.

Human Activities Impacting the Environment:

As we know, there are a number of factors that lead to global warming and climate change. Here we are going to discuss some human activities that impact the climate:

Generating Electricity:

Generating heat and power by burning coal, gasoline, and oil is one of the most significant sources of global emissions. We produce electricity from these sources, even though we have better and more eco-friendly resources such as solar and wind.

1- Manufacturing Products:

Industries that manufacture goods like cement, electronics, clothes, steel, iron, and so on are also emitting gases. These industries are causing a huge chunk of emissions globally.

2- Destroying Forests:

We are cutting down trees and forests just for housing, farms, and pasture purposes. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and help to balance the atmosphere of the earth. When you cut trees, they also release CO2 that they have been keeping.

3- Transportation:

Cars and other road vehicles are contributing a higher amount of greenhouse gases. Our transportation runs on fuel, such as cars, planes, ships, and other options. So, transportation is also the most significant contributor to gases.

4- Commercial Power Consumption:

Whether residential or commercial, buildings consume electricity generated from fossil fuels. As a result, an enormous increase in the number of buildings also increases electricity consumption, so it affects the atmosphere as they release gases.

What is Global Warming?

Due to the industrial revolution, the world’s temperature has increased by 1 degree Celsius (or about 2 degrees Fahrenheit). Global warming is all about rising sea levels, expanding deserts, melting of polar ice caps, ocean acidification, and extinction of plant and animal species. Since the 1880s, this temperature is gradually increasing. According to climate scientists, these statistics have become doubled since 1980. As a result, our planet has become hotter. The effects of global warming are really devastating, such as wildfires, tropical storms, droughts, and more that we refer to generally as climate change.

Causes of Global Warming:

When CO2 and other hazardous gases mix in the air, then the phenomenon of global warming occurs. These gases absorb and reflect sunlight. As a result, these gases go into the solar space and directly increase the earth’s temperature. Gases like nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and methane are known as greenhouse gases, and their impact is referred to as the greenhouse effect. Transportation, the burning of fossil fuels, and several human activities are some of the main causes of global warming. Companies are trying to cut their emissions by following climate agreements and policies. They are trying to shift their fossil fuel usage to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

We need to cut carbon emissions by 40 % by 2030 to protect our earth.

What is Climate Action?

Climate is continuously changing due to several impacts, and we are seeing warming, rising sea levels, droughts, and other environmental issues. United Nations Environment Program plays a significant role in sustainability by taking appropriate climate actions. They have created a climate action plan which is named as Goal 13.

Here is a brief description of Goal 13.

  • 13.1: In order to tackle natural disasters and environment-related hazards, it is necessary to strengthen resilience & adaptive capacity in all regions or countries of the world.
  • 13.2: Add climate change policies and measures to national planning, strategies, and policies.
  • 13.3: Increase awareness about climate change on different levels. It should involve impact reduction, warnings, mitigation, and adaptation.
  • In regard to climate change, the United Kingdom organized the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, also known as cop26. The key purpose of this conference is to bring parties together to pace up climate actions according to the UN framework and Paris Agreement. Countries who signed UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) were part of this event.

According to a study, climate change affects Gulf Stream change. It is because of Arctic sea ice and the Greenland Sea ice melting. As a result, it is accelerating the process of river runoff and precipitation. The world’s weather is getting hotter day by day due to the increasing greenhouse gas emissions. The change in the sea level, temperature, and other environmental problems shows the impact of climate change.

How Simple Choices do We Make On A Daily Basis Can Impact The Climate?

This is our world, and we should make some effort to save it from environmental change causing global warming and climate change. You can do these things individually or collectively to save the climate.

1- Raise Your Voice:

Everyone should feel the responsibility to raise their voice in front of those who are in power currently. They may be members of Parliaments, mayors, or local councilors that you think can do something for the climate. Take simple steps to decrease carbon emissions. Demand for energy-efficient homes, proper recycling infrastructure, green spaces, waste, and air quality is required. These are some helpful ways to create a beautiful environment.

2- Eat Less:

If you really want to protect the climate, you must eat less. By reducing the use of meat and dairy products, you can positively impact the planet. Only eat plant-based food because it is better for your health and earth, too, win-win.

3- Reduce Flying:

Cutting back on flying can also help to reduce carbon emissions. You can do this via video conferencing if you are traveling for work. Choose short trips using an electric vehicle.

4- Walk or Cycling:

Instead of using the car to reach the office, try cycling or walking. It is good for your physical and mental health and the environment. For long distances, you can use public transport. This small step will contribute heavily to the reduction of carbon emissions. Cars lead to major greenhouse gas emissions because they run on fossil fuels. Moreover, it also leads to poor air quality and asthma attacks.

5- Reduce Power Consumption:

By saving electricity, you can save your monthly bill and also carbon emission. The electricity we use in our houses and buildings generates from fossil fuels. The only way to cut your carbon footprint is by reducing your electricity consumption. Immediately replace your bulbs with LEDs. In short, make your home energy efficient.

6- Grow more Green Spaces:

Protect and grow new green spaces because they absorb carbon dioxide and provide oxygen. Green areas like parks, gardens, and grounds also bring some physical activities and help balance out the world’s environment.

4- Cut Waste and Recycle Properly:

Instead of using plastic shopping bags, use paper bags. Everything we employ has a significant impact on the environment in the form of a carbon footprint. Buy sustainable clothes and goods. Try to reduce waste and recycle everything properly. You can use discarded items for different purposes by repairing them. Avoid wasting food and other goods.

Global Climate Change:

The world is experiencing the worst climate change in the form of deadly heat, record floods, raging storms, and many more. These things are affecting the life of every human being. Geologists and scientists predict the long-term change in weather by analyzing the changing conditions of lakes, oceans, mountains, forests, etc. Various factors impact climate change, but we can reduce our carbon footprint by using energy-efficient items and sustainable products. Climate change affects the whole earth by polluting the water we drink, breathe, and our habitat. In short, it is affecting everyone at different levels. We are witnessing severe health risks, extreme weather, dirty air, rising seas, and acidic oceans just because of climate change.
