Every May 31 is World No Tobacco Day. No Smoking was initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO). This day focuses on the harmful effects of tobacco on human health and what actions can be taken to fight against tobacco addiction.
Tobacco is responsible for many serious diseases, such as cancers (the most frequent concerning the lungs), cardiovascular diseases, and chronic respiratory diseases. Smoking also increases the risk of osteoporosis, postoperative complications, ectopic pregnancies, and erectile dysfunction.
According to the WHO, tobacco causes more than 8 million deaths each year. More than 8 million of them are users or former users, and about 1.2 million non-smokers are involuntarily exposed to smoke.
Risk Prevention | No Smoking
The World Day focuses on the health hazards of tobacco and the anti-tobacco action led by the WHO.
The WHO established it in 1987 to raise awareness worldwide of the tobacco epidemic and its deadly effects. Smoking is indeed the largest preventable epidemic.

This World, No Tobacco Day on May 31 is also an opportunity to act in companies. Many companies help their employees quit smoking. And protecting employees from passive smoking is part of the employer’s safety obligation.
Since February 1, 2007, it has been forbidden to smoke in places assigned to collective use, closed and covered, which constitute workplaces. The employer must enforce this prohibition.
It is also necessary to display on the premises used as a workplace an apparent sign recalling the principle of the prohibition of smoking and vaping under penalty of a fine. This signage must be affixed to building entrances, in visible places, and a visible manner.
