Is the water draining more slowly than usual in the shower, is it stagnating in the sink, or is the toilet bowl threatening to overflow? Obviously, your pipes are clogged! Don’t panic: unblocking a line is not rocket science! There is no need to call a plumber immediately: you will likely be able to solve the problem yourself! Here are the tips to Unclog Drain Pipes.

1- Pour A Pan of Boiling Water

Very often, it is simply grease or soap that clogs a pipe. To unclog drain pipes, pour a pan of boiling water. It is, of course, a question of proceeding with caution so as not to burn yourself! For maximum efficiency, it is generally necessary to roll at least twice to unblock the pipe completely. Make sure to bring the water to a boil each time and pour it into the drain immediately.

2- White Vinegar and Baking Soda to Unclog Drain Pipes

There is a complete range of products designed to unclog drain pipes. Although they are powerful, they have several disadvantages and could be more ecological often expensive. They are also challenging to handle because they are dangerous. Before relying on them, it is therefore wise to use homemade recipes, which prove sufficient in many cases.

All you need is white vinegar, coarse salt and baking soda. Pour the baking soda directly into the pipes (count 150 to 160 g). Add a tablespoon of coarse salt. Then pour white vinegar (120 ml). The mixture produces an immediate chemical reaction, creating a quantity of foam. Leave to act for 30 minutes, then pour in a pan of boiling water.

3- Dishwashing Liquid

In the toilets, we will instead rely on a very simple recipe: dishwashing liquid. Boil a pot of water. Pour the equivalent of a cup of dishwashing liquid into the bowl, then immediately add boiling water to unclog drain pipes.

4- Caustic Soda

Another proven tip for unblocking pipes are using caustic soda. It should be handled with care: gloves and glasses are essential! Pour 3 cups of caustic soda into ¾ liter of cold water. Stir using a stick or an old wooden kitchen utensil until you obtain an emulsion. Pour the mixture into the drain and leave to act for 30 minutes. Finish by pouring a pan of boiling water. If you notice that the evacuation is poor, repeat the operation.

5- The Unblocker Chemical

Nothing could be simpler than using an unblocker chemical to unclog drain pipe . Pour the recommended quantity of product into the pipe, let it act, and finish by pouring boiling water. Be careful, however: this type of product should be handled with care. It is, therefore, essential to wear gloves and possibly a mask to avoid burning yourself or breathing toxic fumes. We will also avoid mixing. There is no question of using products such as cleaners or bleach!

6- The Sucker

This is undoubtedly the oldest technique for unblocking pipes, but it has undoubtedly proven itself! Have you never used it before? Don’t worry, it’s easy. Just one precaution: start by blocking all secondary openings. Run some water in the bathtub, shower or sink. Then, position the suction cup over the pipe’s opening to cover it completely. Now, you need to make back-and-forth movements to create a draft of air.

7- The Vacuum Cleaner to Uncloge Pipes

If you have a wet and vacuum cleaner, it will be very useful for unblocking a pipe! Start by vacuuming it, and use an old vacuum head to collect the cork. In the absence of a vacuum cleaner of this type, you will find an equally effective tool in DIY stores: the pump unblocker, generally delivered with two nozzles (sink/washbasin and WC).

8- Remove the Siphon

For the shower, bathtub or sink, if the pipe is clogged, the first thing to do is to clean the siphon! It is common for it to be blocked by grease or soap residue, but also food fragments in the sink or hair in the shower.

To clean the siphon, nothing could be simpler. Bring a pair of gloves, a container (bucket or basin) and, if necessary, an adjustable wrench.

Start by installing your container under the siphon so that you can collect the water and waste. Then unscrew the siphon (using an adjustable wrench if it is metal). If it is plastic, proceed carefully, holding the top part firmly while you unscrew the bottom part. After collecting the water and waste, clean the siphon well to avoid odor problems.

Little Tip: To ensure that the pipes are perfectly clean, use a baby bottle brush to clean the part located between the drain and the siphon! Then put it back in place.

ATTENTION :
It is common for the seal to go unnoticed because it falls into the container when opened. So make sure you pick it up and put it back!

9- Drain Auger:

The drain auger is an effective technique for unblocking pipes. It is a metal rod, the end of which is equipped with a hook: it thus passes through the materials obstructing your lines. This tool is handy for unblocking various pipes, interior and exterior drains but also gutters, etc. Its use is extremely simple since you need to insert the end of the ferret into the pipe and move it forward by turning the crank. Once it reaches the material blocking your pipe, it can pierce it, allowing water to flow again.

The drain auger is a common tool available in all DIY stores. If you don’t have one and the blockage obstructing the pipe is located high enough, you can use manual drain snake, using a metal hanger.

It can reach 15 m, it may need to be increased in some instances. It is then appropriate to use a drain auger, a tool intended to unclog a very long pipe. It is a cable 1 to 2 cm in diameter, equipped with a handle. Some models can be fitted with an electric drill.
