Drinking Too Much Juices Can Dramatically Increase The Risk of Stroke

We already knew that soft drinks were not good for our health, but now commercial fruit juices are added to the list of foods to avoid.

A new study suggests that people who drink fruit juice daily see their risk of stroke increase by 37%! We are talking here about beverages purchased at the grocery store that are not made entirely from freshly squeezed juice.

The same study allows us to learn that those who consume soft drinks, with or without sugar, increase their risk of stroke by 22%.

How did the researchers discover the risks of stroke linked to fruit juices?

This study was conducted by the University of Galway in Ireland in partnership with McMaster University in Ontario.

The data was collected over 5 years from 27,000 people from 27 countries. Of these people, 13,500 had suffered a first stroke.

The goal was to establish a link between what they drank and stroke. The researchers studied the consumption of soft drinks, fruit juice, water, coffee, black tea, green tea and other types of tea.

Drink more tea and less fruit juice from concentrate

In addition to finding that fruit juice and soft drinks increase the risk of stroke, the study results show that tea and water can cause the opposite effect. On the other hand, too much coffee consumption can increase the risk of stroke.

Drink Fresh Juices

Commercial fruit juices that are made from concentrate and contain sugars and preservatives can negate the benefits typically associated with fresh fruit and increase the risk of stroke by 37%. Drinking two or more of these drinks per day triples the risk.

Soft drinks, whether sweetened or artificially sweetened, are associated with a 22% increased risk of stroke. This percentage increases dramatically if you drink two or more of these drinks per day.

Drinking 7 glasses of water per day greatly reduces the risk of blood clots that cause stroke.

Drinking more than 4 cups of coffee per day also increases the risk of stroke by 37%. This increase does not affect those who drink 3 or less.

Drinking tea is associated with an 18 to 20% reduced risk of stroke. 3 to 4 cups of black tea per day can lower the risk by up to 29% while the same amount of green tea reduces the risk of stroke by 27%.

Adding milk to tea completely cancels out the beneficial effects of the antioxidants present in tea.
