The Miss World (1961-1970)

The Miss World pageant is one of the oldest and most distinguished beauty pageants in the world. It was first held in 1951, and since then, it has become an international phenomenon, with contestants from all over the world vying for the coveted title. The pageant is famous for its focus on beauty with a purpose. All the contestants are not only judged on their physical appearance but also on their intelligence, talent, and commitment to social causes. The winner of Miss World represents as a global ambassador for beauty, grace, and goodwill. Miss World Of 1961 – Rosemarie Frankland

Rosemarie was the 11th winner of Miss World tile in 1961. The pageant took place In London and the winner was also from the UK. She got the crown as Miss Wales and was the first runner-up in the Miss Universe Competition in 1961. Rosemarie was got the crown by Bob Hope who claimed that he had never seen as beautiful girl as Rosemarie.  

Miss World Of 1962 – Catharina Lodders

Catharina Johanna Lodders got the title of Miss World in 1962, representing the Netherlands. She was the second title holder of the country after Corine Rottschafer in 1959. The beauty contest took place in London, UK and Lodders was the winner of prestige crown by the 1961 winner Rosemarie Frankland. She was also previously crowned as Miss Holland. 

Miss World Of 1963 – Carole Joan Crawford

The Jamaican beauty, Carole Joan Crawford got the crown as the 13th Miss World in 1963. 

The beauty pageant had a total of 39 contestants from which the 20-year-old Crawford managed to name the title to herself. After she won the title, she was welcomed like a queen in her country. The Jamaican Post also issued stamps that had her picture imprinted over it.

Miss World Of 1964 –Ann Sidney

Ann Sidney was named as the Miss World of 1964 in London, UK. The winner received the crown in her hometown by the winner of 1963 Carole Joan Crawford. Sidney performed in several films including ‘Performance’, ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Are You Being Served?’. Ann Sidney was also the lead singer at MGM Grand Las Vegas and also appeared in various musicals as well as Christman Pantomimes. 

Miss World Of 1965 – Lesley Langley

In the 15th edition of the Miss World pageant, Lesley Langley got the crown as the beautiful woman. With her win, UK became the second country to win the title for two consecutive years. The first country to achieve this was Sweden in the years 1951 and 1952. The winner also worked in a few films and also featured as the cover lady of Weymouth’s Official Holiday Guide.

Miss World Of 1966 – Reita Faria

Reita Faria was crowned as the Mis World on November 1966. The event took place in London, UK where Reita became the first Asian delegate to win the prestigious title. She also won the title of Miss Bombay in 1966. The beauty pageant winner refused to act in films or any offers of modeling. Rieta went on to continue with her M.B.B.S degree from Grant Medical College & Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals. Later on, she flew to London to pursue higher studies at King’s College Hospital.

Miss World Of 1967 – Madeline Hartog-Bel

Madeline was the 17th winner of the World Famous Beauty Pageant. She defeated 54 contestants and was the title of representing Peru. She was also the semi-finalist of the Miss Universe contest in 1966. Madeline Hartog received the crown from the previous title holder Reita Faria of India.

Miss World Of 1968 – Penelope Plummer

Penelope Plummer took the title of Miss World 1968 representing Australia. The event took place in London, UK where she defeated a total of 53 contestants. She marked the first time win for an Australian beauty. After her winning the title, Penelope also appeared in the Bob Hope Christmas Show.  

Miss World Of 1969 – Eva Rueber-Staier

This was the 19th season of the international Miss World beauty pageant. It was broadcast in color by BBC. 50 contestants vied for the crown won by Eva Rueber-Staier from Austria. The winner was also previously named as Miss Austria. The beauty model also acted in movies of James Bond including For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy and The Spy Who Loved Me. Eva is also very much into arts and crafts and creates metalwork sculptures masterpieces. 

Miss World Of 1970 – Jennifer Hosten

Jennifer, from Grenada, was named as the Miss World in 1970. Being a model, author, and a radio announcer by profession, Jenifer was also titled as Miss Grenada in 1970. She worked for the BBC’s Caribbean radio service after which she became a flight attendant. Her win caused a controversy in the days beforehand as there were rumors that she won because of the pressure exerted by the Prime Minister of her country who was also amongst the panel of judges.
