Beef Koftas Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Koftas:
- 500g (1 lb) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely grated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- One tsp ground paprika
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
For the Yogurt Sauce:
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped
Preparation Method:
1- Prepare the Koftas:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated onion, minced garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, allspice, black pepper, turmeric, cayenne pepper, parsley, cilantro, egg, and salt.
- Mix well until all ingredients are combined. It’s best to use your hands to ensure the mixture is well blended, or you can use the chopper to combine the well.
2- Shape the Koftas:
- Take small portions of the mixture (about the size of a golf ball) and shape them into oval or cylindrical shapes. You can also shape them into round meatballs if you prefer.
- Place the shaped koftas on a plate or tray.
3- Cook the Beef Koftas:
- Grilling: Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates. Grill the koftas for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until fully cooked through. You can cook under a hot grill or on a barbecue for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
- Pan-frying: Add a few tablespoons of oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the koftas in batches, turning occasionally, until they are browned on all sides and cooked through, for about 8-10 minutes in total.
- Baking: Start an oven and preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place all the koftas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for around 20-25 minutes, turning once halfway through, until fully cooked.
Prepare the Yogurt Sauce:
- In a medium bowl, combine the yogurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, chopped mint, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Serve:
1. Serve the beef koftas hot with the yogurt sauce on the side. They go well with pita bread, rice, or a fresh salad.
Enjoy your homemade beef koftas!
